Benbough Operating Foundation

The Foundation has run projects directly through its wholly owned operating foundation. Included in these projects are the following:

  1. Balboa Park. The Foundation commissioned several national studies on Balboa Park, its governance and its infrastructure needs. As a result of these studies, the City commissioned a task force to make recommendations on the future of the Park. This study was also financed by the Foundation. The Foundation anticipates further funding in this area as City governance for the Park is developed.
  2. Diamond Neighborhoods. The Foundation is currently funding a study for the development of an arts center in the Diamond Neighborhoods of San Diego. This center would provide the residents access, in their neighborhood, to the  resources of Balboa Park institutions.
  3. Balboa Park Online Collaborative. The Foundation created BPOC as a three-year project to address common technological problems in Balboa Park while improving public access to the institutions’ rich cultural resources. By emphasizing cooperation between the institutions, the BPOC will improve technical capacity in the park at an overall lower cost, while also encouraging cross-institution collaboration and preparing them to better serve their missions for the next generation. The activities of BPOC are designed to compound over time and are currently focused in the areas of technical infrastructure, web redevelopment, collections management normalization, collections and archive digitization, and improved public access and cultural tourism.
Projects for the Benbough Operating Foundation are developed solely by the board of The Legler Benbough Foundation. No applications for Operating Foundation funding are accepted.
